Angra do Heroísmo

The Portuguese town Angra do Heroismo is a fortified historical area. It is the capital of the Terceira island in the Autonomous Region of Azores, mostly just called the Azores. It is the oldest  and the second largest place of the archipelago. During the prosperity period of the Portuguese colonial empire, Angra do Heroísmo was the most important port of the transatlantic shipping.

Nowadays, Angra do Heroismo does not have former strategic position in the shipping anymore. It is the tourist town, which is visited by many from all over the world. Cozy streets, breathtaking views attract crowds. Additionally, an amazing story of the town as well as its history and military strength bring a lot of sightseers to the place.

It is worth mentioning that the name of the town itself is intriguing. Angra in Portuguese means a bay and Heroismo means heroism that refers to Queen Maria II, who fleeing from her husband found the shelter in this picturesque place.

Narrow Pavement

Although beautiful, Angra do Heroismo is quite crowded. As the town is visited by thousands of tourists throughout the year, it is not free from noise, vehicles and hectic life. Tiny narrow streets full of people, cars, shop windows were not an ideal place for plants. Lack of the access to natural substrate and water, limited surface and busy streets were a real challenge.

Solution

While planting the main busy street in Angra do Heroismo, we decided to take advantage of the hanging Flower Towers W600/1. It is an ideal solution if we do not have enough space for the standing Flower Towers. The hanging Flower Towers require just a minimum place but give the maximum effect. Using only a few pieces of them, the street got some colors and the people could appreciate the nature in the crowded city artery.
